Celebrate MassVOTE’s Champions of Democracy — Sept. 12, 2012

Posted by:

This November’s Senate race in Massachusetts is one of the most important in the nation – and the rest of the ballot will feature crucial decisions at every level.  Do you want a huge turnout this fall?

On Wednesday, September 12, from 6pm to 8pm, MassVOTE’s Champions of Democracy Celebration will be the largest event of the fall to raise funds for nonpartisan Get-Out-The-Vote efforts for the critical 2012 elections.

In this Olympic year, MassVOTE will honor two unsung heroes.  As a Cambridge Election Commissioner for 24 years, Darleen Bonislawski registered thousands of voters and ensured free, fair elections for two decades for our state’s fifth largest city. As chief of the Voting Rights Project at the Lawyers’ Committee for Civil Rights, Rahsaan Hall is one of the most important legal minds working to protect the right to vote.

MassVOTE matters for Massachusetts.  From defeating extremist efforts to suppress the vote, to fighting to get corporate money out of politics, to helping get out the vote in low-income communities all over the state, year after year, MassVOTE makes a difference.

Sponsor Levels:

Champion $5,000 and up Includes a full page message in the program book on gold paper
Each Champion pays for a Get-Out-The-Vote grant to support an organizer at a local nonprofit organization from now through Election Day.  MassVOTE’s grant recipients have increased the vote in Roxbury, Dorchester, and other communities by 18% or more.

Olympian $2,500 Full page message
Each Olympian pays for 200 hours of door-to-door time and materials for MassVOTE’s outstanding urban teen leaders, with a double benefit: 10 youth gain leadership skills, and 4,000 neighbors are asked, in person, to commit to vote.

Herculean $1,000 ½ page message

Each Herculean pays for transportation and materials so MassVOTE’s policy team can go to anywhere the right to vote is threatened.  In 2011, MassVOTE fought extremists in New Bedford, Southbridge, and Worcester, and we defeated a statewide initiative to require voter ID that would have suppressed voters this fall.  We must be ready this year.

Athenian $500 ¼ page message
Each Athenian pays for enough posters and voter registration guides to fully stock 12 community nonprofits so they can help low-income residents vote this November.

Athlete $250 page message
Each Athlete powers our website for a month, giving MassVOTE the ability to send fast updates to our 8,856 volunteers so they can get out the vote and make sure every vote is counted.

While I am not sure I can attend the September 12th evening event, I would appreciate it if you could put my name on the list as I am trying to free up the evening to come. In either case, I am sending a personal check to Mass Vote in the mail today. I will also include the Lawyers’ Committee check for $250 for the1/8 page message. Thank you again for honoring our colleague, Rahsaan Hall.
